The Chornobyl nuclear plant's protective shield, built to contain deadly radiation from the 1986 disaster, has been seriously damaged. The UN's nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, says a drone strike in February, blamed on Russia, weakened this vital safety barrier. This strike caused a fire and damaged the steel shell around Reactor 4, which is the one destroyed in the original explosion.
